Report: Avaya Cutting 400 Jobs

05/21/2008

Telecom equipment maker Avaya Inc. will slice 400 jobs by the end of May, the Associated Press reported late Wednesday afternoon.

An Avaya spokeswoman blamed the weak economy and slow telecom equipment sales for the layoffs, which come after 600 positions were eliminated earlier this year.

Most of the job losses will take place in Basking Ridge, N.J., where Avaya is headquartered, AP reported.

Avaya now is owned by private equity firms Silver Lake and TPG; the company originally was a Lucent Technologies spinoff.
