Time Warner Telecom Announces New Services, Customers
06/07/2006
Time Warner Telecom Inc. made a series of announcements this week at GLOBALCOMM. First, the managed services provider said it has launched 1gbps availability and nationwide reach for its IP VPN service to business customers. Seattle-based TV broadcaster Fisher Communications is among the first companies to sign up for the service. The company is looking to Time Warner Telecom to help it centralize business applications, get Internet access and distribute programming to its locations in Idaho, Oregon and Washington. Time Warner Telecom also said it is working with IP platforms developer Overture Networks to develop “branch office” access for Ethernet services to business customers. Time Warner Telecom is using Overture’s multiservice access device, the ISG 180, as it provisions those Ethernet services. Idaho’s fast-growing Meridian School District has hired Time Warner Telecom to outfit its campuses with metro Ethernet, Ethernet Internet and voice services. The provider is building fiber to certain locations with intense bandwidth needs, while smaller schools needing less bandwidth will get Ethernet services delivered over copper. Overture’s network devices will help Time Warner Telecom integrate all of the schools. Next, Time Warner Telecom has introduced Integrated LAN Ethernet service for businesses with distributed locations. The service provides secure data, Internet and integrated voice services. Finally, the managed services provider said it has been chosen to deliver network services for The Quilt's CIS project. The Quilt provides communications capabilities among regional network organizations and others, such as higher learning institutions and research universities. The Quilt membership is made up of 23 regional nonprofit network aggregators within the United States that pass traffic for a significant portion of university and college sites, as well as K-12 state education networks in the States. "The Quilt serves more than 100 participants, whose aggregated bandwidth requirements for Internet service are expected to grow to more than 24gbps by the end of 2006," said Hud Croasdale, executive director of The Quilt. "Time Warner Telecom’s advanced, high-performance networking solutions, designed for large organizations, will provide the speed and capacity The Quilt's member institutions require for transferring large amounts of data quickly and reliably."
