MegaPath To Take Duet Nationwide
Paula Bernier
06/11/2007 MegaPath Inc. this year plans to take its Duet integrated access service nationwide. The service, which includes VoIP and broadband Internet access for small and medium businesses, is already available in the northeastern United States. Duet was launched early last year by DSL.net Inc. in the Washington, D.C., and New York City metropolitan areas. MegaPath acquired DSL.net http://www.megapath.com/pressroom/investment_dslnet.cfm toward the end of last year, upgraded the company’s network to a BroadSoft platform, and expanded service availability into markets up and down the East Coast, said Gregory Davis, vice president of product marketing. The company is now delivering Duet, for which pricing starts as low as $99 for two phone lines and Internet access (which MegaPath said is about half what incumbents charge for the same services), out of about 300 central offices. The services run over either a T1 or SDSL connection. Davis notes that the Duet VoIP traffic never touches the Internet but rather runs over MegaPath’s OC12, IP/MPLS network. The national rollout will happen during the third and fourth quarters of 2007, with MegaPath announcing and launching new areas on a per-market basis, said Davis. Duet supports analog phones or key Systems and includes voice mail, caller ID, call waiting, call forwarding-always, call forwarding-busy, call forwarding-no answer, call transfer, *69, *66 and hunt group. Customers with a PBX can purchase MegaPath’s Converged T1 service, which includes caller ID and DIDs with a PRI hand-off for the same price as Duet, but with unlimited inbound/local minutes and 250 long-distance minutes per line. Duet customers can keep using their existing phones and phone numbers, so there is no user training required. As a managed service, MegaPath installs all of the necessary equipment and performs any required maintenance or upgrades for as long as the customer subscribes to the service. MegaPath also monitors the customer circuits around the clock from its redundant network operations centers and live customer support is available anytime. MegaPath’s SecureConnect managed security services – which include managed firewall, anti-virus, anti-spam, Web filtering and intrusion prevention – can be added for a nominal monthly fee to Duet in select markets.
