PIKA Technologies Releases a New Asterisk Deployment Platform

09/18/2007

PIKA Technologies Inc., a developer of media-processing hardware and software, released PIKA Appliance for Asterisk, a small, cost-effective alternative to traditional off-the-shelf computers, the company said. The new appliance is purpose-built for the Asterisk open-source communications platform.

The unit provides developers with an out-of-the-box embedded computer that allows them to deploy Asterisk with traditional and next-generation telephony features, optimized for the SMB environment.

The PIKA Appliance for Asterisk brings application developers the functionality of a key service unit (KSU), cost effectively and at a smaller footprint, said PIKA. The customizable appliance is compatible with VoIP and analog trunks and telephones.

“By taking the features of a KSU and putting them into a small, low-cost, very reliable computer appliance with an open-source architecture, application developers can more effectively deliver their Asterisk solutions to small- and medium-sized business customers,” said Terry Atwood, vice president of sales, marketing and customer care at PIKA.

Features of the PIKA Appliance include up to 100 IP trunk/station ports; a FXS port standard in every unit; up to eight additional analog FXO/FXS ports; as well as traditional telephony features such as power failure transfer, music-on-hold, paging and more.

PIKA Appliance for Asterisk will be generally available in first quarter 2008.
